# Build with AI: The Very Good Letter Company

> Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Gemini for letters in plain words. It reads your brand, finds the right people, writes each of them a letter of their own and tells you the price. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.

- **Connector address:** https://app.verygoodletter.co/mcp (MCP over Streamable HTTP; you sign in with OAuth and allow it).
- **In the official MCP Registry** as `co.verygoodletter/letters`.
- **Connect your assistant:** https://app.verygoodletter.co/agents

## Connect in a minute

Add the connector to your assistant once, sign in and allow it. It works in your own assistant account, on your own plan.

### Claude

1. In Claude, go to **Customize**, then **Connectors**. Choose **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**.
2. Call it **Very Good Letter**, paste the connector address, and choose **Continue**, then **Add**.
3. Sign in to Very Good Letter when Claude asks, and allow it. In a chat, turn it on from **+**, then **Connectors**.

### ChatGPT

1. In ChatGPT, go to **Settings**, then **Apps**. Under **Advanced settings**, turn on **Developer mode**.
2. Choose **Create app**. Call it **Very Good Letter**, paste the connector address, and choose **OAuth**.
3. Sign in to Very Good Letter when ChatGPT asks, and allow it. In a chat, pick it from **+**. Developer mode is on paid plans, on the web.

### Grok

1. In Grok, go to **grok.com/connectors**. Choose **New Connector**, then **Custom**.
2. Paste the connector address. Grok finds what it can do here by itself.
3. Sign in to Very Good Letter when Grok asks, and allow it. It uses the connector whenever you ask it for letters.

### Gemini

1. In Gemini on the web, go to **Settings**, then **Connected apps**. Under **Custom apps**, choose **Add a custom app**.
2. Paste the connector address, and choose to sign in.
3. Sign in to Very Good Letter when Gemini asks, and allow it. Custom apps may not be on every Google account yet.

### Another assistant

1. Find where your assistant adds a connector. It may be called a custom connector, an app, or an MCP server.
2. Add it as a remote MCP server at the connector address, signing in with OAuth.
3. Sign in to Very Good Letter when it asks, and allow it. Any assistant that connects to MCP servers with sign-in can do this.

Ordering is a permission of its own, off unless you tick it. Without it, your assistant makes the letters and you order them in the app.

**Teach it the house style.** Two skills for your assistant: how Very Good Letter works, and your own business, made fresh for your account with letters you’ve written. Download them from the app. https://app.verygoodletter.co/agents

## Things to ask for

Ready to open in your assistant. It asks you for the parts in square brackets.

### Keep customers ahead of renewal

Finds the customers coming up for renewal who might not stay, and writes each one a letter of their own about how they actually use you.

You’ll need: Your customers: a connected app here, or a spreadsheet; Renewal dates and how they use you.

> Using Very Good Letter, go through our customers and find the ones whose renewal is in the next [60] days. Look at how each one has used us: [what we track, like logins, orders, the features they use, support tickets]. Pick out the ones at risk of leaving and the ones with room to do more with us, and tell me why for each.
>
> Then write each of them a letter of their own, in our voice, about their own use of us: what's gone well, one thing that would help them, and a warm word about the year ahead. Keep each to a few short paragraphs. Make it one letter written for each person, and show me every letter, who it's to and the price before anything is ordered.

### Find and write to new leads

Researches businesses that look like your best customers, finds where to write to them, and writes each one a first letter of its own.

You’ll need: Who your best customers are; Where you work, and who you’d like to reach.

> Using Very Good Letter, find [20] businesses that look like our best customers: [who they are, like independent restaurants in Bath, or UK software companies of 20 to 200 people]. For each one, find the right person to write to and the business's postal address from its own website or its public company record, and tell me where you found it. Don't guess an address: leave out anyone you can't find properly.
>
> Then write each of them a first letter of their own: something specific you noticed about their business, why we'd be useful to them, and one easy next step. Make it one letter written for each person, and show me the list, every letter and the price before anything is ordered.

### Thank everyone for the year

A thank-you letter to everyone on a list, with each person’s name and company.

You’ll need: A spreadsheet or a list here.

> Using Very Good Letter, read our brand from [our website], then write a thank-you letter to everyone in [this spreadsheet / our list called …]. Thank them for the year, mention their company, and keep it to three short paragraphs. Show me the words and the price before ordering.

### Welcome new customers

A welcome card for each new customer, in their first week with you.

You’ll need: Their names and addresses.

> Using Very Good Letter, send a welcome card to each of our new customers below. Welcome them by name, say one thing they can look forward to with us, and sign off warmly. Show me the card and the price first.
>
> [names and addresses]

### Win back quiet customers

A letter to customers you haven’t heard from in a while, each mentioning what they last had from you.

You’ll need: Customers with when they last ordered and what.

> Using Very Good Letter, write to our customers who haven't ordered since [date], from [our Shopify / Stripe customers here, or this spreadsheet]. Mention what each one last had from us, tell them what's new, and invite them back. Written for each person, a few lines each. Show me the letters and the price first.

### Season’s greetings

A seasonal card for clients, suppliers and partners.

You’ll need: Who it’s for.

> Using Very Good Letter, make a season's greetings card for [our clients / suppliers / partners] in [this list]. Wish them and their company well for the season and the new year, in a sentence or two. Show me the card and the price first.

## Everything it can do

Your assistant chooses the steps as it goes. You just ask.

### Your brand

- Read your logo, colours, typeface and name from your website.
- Set or change any of them by hand.
- Start every letter in your brand.

### Your letters

- Start from a moment, with words already written for the occasion, or from a flat card, a folded card or a folded letter.
- Write the same words for everyone, with their name, company or any column on your list, or a letter written for each person, sized to fit.
- Add a P.S., choose the look, and post it first or second class.
- Change any letter until it’s ordered.

### Your people

- Add up to 5,000 people at a time with their postal addresses, or write to a list you’ve saved.
- Read your customers from Shopify, Stripe or a CRM you’ve connected in the app.
- Never guess an address: for new leads, only a business’s own website or its public company record, and it tells you where.

### The price and the order

- Tell you the price in credits, and what’s on your account.
- Order from your credits, once you’ve said yes to the letters, the people and the price.
- List what you’ve ordered.

**And everything else it can reach.** Your assistant brings what it’s already connected to: your CRM, your inbox, your files, the web. Ask it to research each person first, and it writes every letter from what it finds.

- **Ordering is a separate yes.** It’s a permission of its own, off unless you tick it when you connect.
- **Only what you agreed.** It orders only after you’ve said yes to the letters, the people and the price, and only the number of letters you agreed.

## Fair questions

### Which assistants work?

Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Gemini, and any assistant that connects to MCP servers with sign-in.

### Do I need an account?

Yes. Connecting asks you to sign in to Very Good Letter, with a link we email you, and allow your assistant.

### Can it order on its own?

Only if you let it. Ordering is a permission of its own, off unless you tick it, and even then only after you’ve said yes to the letters, the people and the price, from credits you already have. In ChatGPT, you order in the app.

### Can it show me the letters?

It shows you the words of every letter, who it’s to and the price, with a link to see each one in the app. It can’t show a picture in the chat yet.

### Where do the addresses come from?

From your spreadsheet, a list you’ve saved, or your customers in Shopify, Stripe or a CRM you’ve connected. For new leads, only from a business’s own website or its public company record, and it tells you where. It never guesses one.

### Who writes the letters?

Written by robots. Unquestionably human. Real fountain pens, real ink, real paper. Just a steadier hand than ours. Nib, our handwriting model, guides each pen, in twelve styles from loose to neat.

### What does it cost?

You pay in credits. A standard letter is 7 credits, envelope, stamp and postage included: from £3.25 a letter before VAT. [See the prices](https://www.verygoodletter.co/pricing).
